Roles and Functions

The State Licensing Authority (IM) plays major in licensing, quality maintenance and monitoring of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani System of Medicine.

In the process of monitoring of the quality of the Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani drugs, the licensing authority is empowered with Cancellation and Suspension of drug licenses who violates the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and rules made thereunder.

The function performed by State Licensing Authority (IM) includes:

  1. License for Manufacture of Sale of ASU drugs:
    1. Grant of
    2. Renewal of Licence
    3. Approval of drug formulations.
    4. Good Manufacturing Certification (GMP)
    5. Grant of Loan Licence to the manufacturer and its renewal.
    6. Free Sale Certificate.
    7. Additional Endorsement of drug
    8. Brand name change of drug.
    9. Non-Conviction Certification.
    10. Market Standing Certificate.
    11. Performance Certificate.
    12. Validity Certificate.
    13. Unit Existence Certificate for tender activities.
  2. Approval of Testing Laboratories:
    1. Grant of Approval to ASU drug testing laboratories.
    2. Renewal of Lab Licence.
  3. Approval of Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani Advertisements.
    1. Standardization of ASU advertisement.
    2. Regulation of Misleading ASU drug Advertisement.
  4. Monitoring of Quality and Standards of ASU drugs in the market.
    1. Suspension and Cancellation of drug licenses.
    2. Suspension and Cancellation of unit licence.
    3. Withdrawal of approval of Drug Testing Laboratories.
